About this event

No Vacancy, Miami Beach 2026 November 12 – December 19, 2026 The Shelborne By Proper welcomes artist Yanira Collado as part of No Vacancy, Miami Beach , the City of Miami Beach’s annual juried art competition transforming local hotels into temporary exhibition spaces for contemporary art.Celebrating its seventh edition, the program brings 12 artists and collectives to 12 Miami Beach hotels, inviting the public to experience site-specific installations beyond traditional museum and gallery settings. Supported by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority, No Vacancy champions primarily local artists and explores the intersection of art, architecture, history, and place. At The Shelborne By Proper Yanira Collado: Converging Timelines / Woven Silhouettes Collado’s site-responsive installation explores the relationship between cultural heritage, architectural patterns, and the histories embedded in everyday materials.

Drawing on regional geometric motifs, the work reframes these visual languages as markers of identity, connecting the hotel’s historic setting with broader cultural and economic narratives. Using upcycled paper, wood, and textiles, Collado incorporates salvaged materials as tangible records of histories often overlooked or underrepresented. Through layered compositions that bring architectural silhouettes and material histories into conversation, Converging Timelines / Woven Silhouettes creates a dialogue between past and present, grounding the transient nature of hospitality in the cultural identity of its surroundings.
